THE COUTTS FOUNDATION TRUSTEES,
STAFF AND ADVISORS

The Board of the Coutts Foundation includes members who are appointed by Coutts and Trustees who are independent of Coutts. The Foundation is run by the Director and is fortunate to be supported by volunteers and staff of Coutts who offer their expertise pro-bono.

Chair

Lord Waldegrave 

Lord Waldegrave became Chairman of Coutts & Co on 1st January 2014. He was educated at Eton College, Corpus Christi College, Oxford and Harvard. Having worked in the Central Policy Review Staff in the Cabinet Office from 1971-3, he became Political Secretary to the Prime Minister, Edward Heath. After a spell working in industry for GEC Ltd, he was elected to the House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Bristol West in 1979. He was made a Minister in 1981, and served continuously until 1997, including terms as Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, and at the Foreign Office. At Cabinet level he served as Secretary of State for Health, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Minister of Agriculture, and Chief Secretary to the Treasury. After losing his Commons seat in 1997, he entered the House of Lords as Baron Waldegrave of North Hill. Before joining Coutts in 2013, he worked successively at Dresdner Kleinwort Benson and UBS, and held non-executive posts at Bank of Ireland (UK) plc and Fleming Family and Partners. He is currently Provost of Eton College, Chairman of Biotech Growth Trust plc, and Chairman of the Royal Mint Advisory Committee.

His charitable work has included a spell as the joint Chairman of the Bristol Cathedral Trust; the Rhodes Trust; and the Science Museum. He was a Trustee of the Mandela Rhodes Foundation; and is now a Trustee of Cumberland Lodge. He owns a dairy farming business in Somerset, Waldegrave Farms Ltd, and is Chairman of the antiquarian bookseller, Henry Sotheran & Co. He is married to Caroline Waldegrave, cookery writer and co-founder of Leith’s School of Food and Wine. They have four children.

Peter Flavel 

Peter joined Coutts as Chief Executive in 2016.

Before joining Coutts, Peter was Chief Executive Officer of J.P. Morgan Private Wealth Management, responsible for overseeing and expanding the high net worth business and client base in Asia Pacific. He was a member of the Wealth Management Global Operating Committee. Peter also spent nine years with Standard Chartered, establishing their Global Private Bank in 2006.

In 2012 he was named Outstanding Private Banker - Asia Pacific by PBI. Most recently he was voted 'Best Leader in Private Banking 2015' at the PWM/The Banker Global Private Banking Awards.

Peter holds degrees in Law and Economics and has attended the Advanced Management Programme at both Harvard Business School and the University of Oxford.

Camilla Stowell

Camilla joined Coutts Private Office in 2007 with a mandate to manage a portfolio of Ultra High Net Worth clients. She has built an impressive 20 years' plus experience in the wealth management industry, previously in client management roles at Lloyds Private Banking, Drummonds, and Schroders Private Bank. In May 2015 she was appointed Managing Director of Coutts International, Coutts Crown Dependencies, and Coutts Private Office. In April 2017 Camilla took an expanded role of Head of Wealth & Investment Management overseeing the management of the businesses, driving strategic and propositional developments. She is a member of the Private Banking Executive Committee and co-chairs the Coutts Diversity & Inclusion Council. Camilla won Private Banker International "Outstanding Young Private Banker" 2012. She has a BA Hons Philosophy & Politics Durham University and the Securities Institute Diploma.

Linda Yueh

Dr. Linda Yueh is Chair of the Audit, Finance and Investment Committee of the Coutts Foundation. She is Fellow in Economics at St Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Adjunct Professor of Economics at the London Business School, and Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Dr. Yueh is Chair of The Royal Commonwealth Society and Trustee of Malaria No More UK. She is Chair of Baillie Gifford's The Schiehallion Fund Ltd and Non-Executive Director of Rentokil Initial plc, SEGRO plc and Fidelity China Special Situations plc. She is an Adviser to the UK Board of Trade and Member of the Independent Review Panel on Ring-fencing and Proprietary Trading. Previously, she was Chief Business Correspondent for BBC News and Economics Editor at Bloomberg TV, as well as an attorney at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.

She is a widely published author and her latest book is The Great Economists: How Their Ideas Can Help Us Today.

 

Alison Rose

Alison is Chief Executive of The NatWest Group having worked at NatWest for more than 27 years.  She joined as a graduate, and was most recently Deputy CEO of NatWest Holdings and CEO of RBS' Commercial & Private Banking business.  Alison is also a Non-Executive Director of Great Portland Estates plc, Trustee of BITC and Chair of the Scottish BITC Advisory Board and sits on the board of the Coutts Charitable Foundation.

 

Rachel Harrington

Rachel joined Coutts in 2011, having previously worked in the non-profit sector for several years. As a specialist adviser in the Coutts Institute, she works with clients across the UK to develop their family strategies for wealth, prepare the next generation for the opportunities and responsibilities of wealth, and create philanthropy strategies that are effective and rewarding. She has a particular interest in Diversity and Inclusion and has previously chaired the Coutts Women's Network and Diversity and Inclusion Council.

Rachel holds a BA (Hons) in Modern History and English from the University of Oxford. She is also a Trustee of Breaking Barriers, a charity that supports refugees into employment, and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Environmental Funders Network. Rachel has previously held trustee roles at Philanthropy Impact and the British Youth Council.

Francesca Barnes

Until October 2021, Francesca served for 9 years as a non-executive Director on the Board of Coutts & Company.

Francesca retired in 2008 from a 27 year career in finance. She held a number of senior roles within UBS Investment Bank including Global Head of Private Equity; Head of Strategy and Development; Global Loan Portfolio Manager and Chair of the UBSIB Development Board. Francesca started her career at Chase Manhattan Bank which she left in 1991 for an 18 month leave of absence to travel extensively.

Francesca now pursues a portfolio in both the commercial and voluntary sectors. She is an independent non-executive director of NatWest Holdings Limited and the ring-fenced banks including Harbourvest Global Private Equity and Capvis Private Equity. She has been Chair of Trustees of Penny Brohn UK (cancer care charity) and Chair of Governors of each of the Henrietta Barnett School and the Bridge Academy, Hackney and is now a council member of the University of Southampton.

Francesca holds a BA Hons (Oxon) in Geography from St Hugh's College, Oxford.

Laura Lines

Laura is a Grants Manager at the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, one of the largest independent grant-makers in the UK spending £40.5 million a year towards a wide range of work within the arts, children and young people, the environment and social change.

Laura's specialist area is social justice with an emphasis on gender equality, refugee and migration and criminal justice. She co-convenes the Association of Charitable Foundation's network on criminal justice and is also a Trustee of Safe Ground, which empowers people to change, reduce reoffending and build stronger communities.

Judith Mcneill

Judith joined the KPMG Foundation as CEO in June 2019 and has over 25 years of leadership experience in the not for profit sector.

Judith has worked in some of the UK's most well known charities including Scope, Macmillan, WaterAid and Comic Relief, and worked alongside many more. She is an experienced relationship builder, grant maker, and is a passionate advocate for social change. She draws on her roots in the north west of England, a family life in one of London's most diverse boroughs, and learning from community organisations and social entrepreneurs across the world, from Derry to Delhi.

Judith's early career was in biochemistry with a doctorate in cancer research and has recently worked in the City of London with one of the UK's oldest philanthropic organisations. She has undertaken fascinating freelance assignments in the youth, environment and health sectors and is a Trustee of the Nationwide Foundation.

CLARE RICHARDS MBE

Clare joined The Coutts Foundation in 2022; previously CEO of the ClementJames Centre, Clare has over 20 years of leadership experience in the not for profit sector.  Clare is also a founder and Trustee of IntoUniversity. 

Thom Kenrick

Thom Kenrick is Head of Social Strategy & Impact at NatWest Group.  He has over 12 years' experience in sustainability and corporate responsibility, is a Fellow of the Institute for Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability (FICRS), and a Fellow of the RSA (FRSA).

Thom leads the team responsible for driving NatWest Group's approach to social sustainability issues and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This includes extensive engagement with stakeholders, including civil society, customers and investors.  Focus areas include financial capability, human rights, controversial sectors, and impact reporting.  The team also lead and deliver the bank's flagship financial education programme, MoneySense.

Outside of work, Thom is a busy dad to three young kids, a Trustee of the School for Social Entrepreneurs, and a Trustee for his daughters' Scout troop.
